New Year New Goals

Last night you may have been out all dolled up and dancing your way into the New Year. Or if you are like me, this year you decided to dress up as a human burrito and stay home. I have nothing against NYE, but am typically not one to reflect on my past year. I am not one to set new years resolutions, nor do I tend to stick to any if I did. But I thought I would give myself some “goals” for 2018 instead. I figure if you write about them and put them out there, you may feel more accountable to them. Or at least I hope so. Most of these goals I’ve had for many years in a row. And again, I don’t always achieve them or feel motivated to. But even just starting small with baby steps can help you towards those goals!

Paying off debt and saving money

This is my goal every year, and the one that I am the worst at keeping. I am a shopaholic and the first step to recovery is to admit it, right? Without sacrificing everything I enjoy, I have started to find a way to work towards this goal. During the last year I started to look into ways of making extra income. I didn’t start a blog to do this, nor would I ever rely on it. In another blog I did read about a bunch of different options for making money online. One was to become an online internet search rater – which I did extensive research on to ensure it was legit. I went through a super intense exam process with a company called Lionbridge and luckily was successful. Working at home from your couch while guiltlessly watching Netflix is my idea of the perfect part-time job! It’s certainly not going to pay your bills but the extra little income has been awesome and a great way to throw onto some debt. Or pay for all your Christmas gifts! Obviously there are a bunch of little things to help save money. Such as quitting lattes or bringing your lunch to work. Which I already accomplished last year! I will continue to try to save in little ways that I can, but am super excited to work extra hard in the evenings to make an additional income as well.

Becoming more active

My second goal, which is never really a priority for me, is getting back into working out. I find it super hard to find motivation for this. I am admittedly skinny, and sometimes struggle to maintain a healthy weight. But this DOES NOT mean that I am actually fit. A lot of people set their new years resolutions around weight loss. Without having that goal in mind, it is so tempting to be lazy. But I want to actually be fit and most importantly healthy! I generally just have no idea what kind of exercise is good if you are trying not to lose weight. Aside from lifting weights which I am not into. For the past couple of years I was doing booty barre classes once a week and I did really enjoy it. Barre doesn’t involve intense cardio so I didn’t feel like I was burning too many calories, but still getting some great benefits. There is a definitely a reason why they call it BOOTY barre. Without my accountability buddy (my mom) close enough to go to classes with, I have completely become a couch potato. So my goal this year is to find a new fitness class I enjoy and hold myself accountable. As hard as it can be sometimes to find motivation to get out of your blanket burrito, I honestly do feel good once I get moving. Eating healthier

Eating a healthier balanced diet. Again, this is one that I always wish to improve but never actually try. With IBS and a lot of OCD about food, I am a pretty picky eater. I like to eat plain and stick with the foods I know won’t bother me. If I could eat plain pasta every night, I would. But again, I want to try to be healthier and change it up. Probably turning to Pinterest for some recipe inspo will be a good start for this one.

More blog posts!

The last goal I will set for myself is to blog more. I am pretty sporadic with my posts, which I am fine with. Often I don’t have things that I feel strongly enough to write about. Or I wait for the perfect idea. But blogging is a good way to just get things out there or to share some ideas others may enjoy. I love reading other great blogs for inspiration and hope to slowly up my game! There are a lot of things that are personal to me that I don’t talk about. But I hope to open myself up because I am sure there are a ton of other people who would relate.

Five goals seems like a decent amount – you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with too many! Even these five alone will take enough time and effort. Except for drinking water, if you just remember that’s pretty easy to do. Perhaps at the end of the year I will make another post on how well I did with these. You can’t expect yourself to be perfect or to hit and maintain ALL of the goals you have. But even taking small steps towards them is a great achievement and something to be proud of.     I can’t wait to see your crush these goals! Perhaps do a mid year review on our progress on your goals?
    Also for drinking water: download the app Hydro Coach! It gives you a phone notification every couple of hours and reminds you to drink water. Helps so much when I’m having a busy day.
