Mother’s Day Gift Ideas That Aren’t All Cliché
It’s finally spring and Mother’s Day is just around the corner! As with any holiday, there will always be some cliché gifts. Not to say that there is anything wrong with this. Some mothers love cards, flowers and breakfast in bed. It’s really about the thought that goes into gifts and I can ensure you that any mother will be happy with whatever you decide to do for them.
But if you are stuck trying to think of something you didn’t just do last year, here are some Mother’s Day gift ideas that aren’t ALL cliché.

15 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Flowers – I will try to get the cliché gifts over with first. With spring almost out in full bloom, who wouldn’t love a fresh bouquet of flowers? Flowers and a card from you will be all that your mother needs to know you are thinking of them. If you want to mix it up, try purchasing some potted plants or flowers that you will need to plant into the garden. These will last longer than a bouquet and your mom will be extra thankful if you help her plant them too!
Spa Gift Card – What woman wouldn’t want a spa gift card or certificate? You can give her any amount for her to purchase whatever she wants, or pick out a specific service you think she will like. You can also buy a gift card through Spa Finder that she can use at a wide range of different spas nearby. That way you can ensure she gets what she wants.
Mani or Pedi for Two – You can also treat your mom to an afternoon at the spa – with you! Book an appointment for a manicure or pedicure (both sound nice to me). You can have that special bonding time while both getting something you need and deserve. Find somewhere new and local to try for lunch after your appointments!
Weekend Trip – Plan a day or weekend trip for just you and your mom if you need some extra bonding time. You can find a nice hotel room or a cheap cottage rental depending on your budget. Or just go somewhere for the day – like shopping!
Breakfast in Bed – You may put this in the cliché category but…it’s free! If you are on a budget try to make a special breakfast for your mom. You can delivery it on a nice tray with some flowers to her in bed. Or if your mom is like mine, she will obviously be up way before you are. Instead you can just plan a special brunch that you can make for everyone, and even clean up afterwards!
Do Her Chores – Offer to help your mom with some of her weekly chores or help out around the garden once the weather is nice. She will totally appreciate this!
Check out a Local Event – You can search for local plays, concerts or even the ballet that you can take your mom out to. Try finding different and unique events around your city for something new to try.
Summer Purse or Wallet – Everyone needs at least one cute purse and with summer coming, your stylish mom will definitely need a nice new one. If they are out of your budget, try funding a cute clutch or wallet instead. You really can’t go wrong with summer accessories! Mod Cloth has some super cute accessories right now – click here to receive 20% off your order.
Throw a Party or BBQ – Mother’s Day may not mean quiet bonding time for you and mom. If you have a larger family, put together a bigger party with family and friends. If the weather is nice, have a backyard BBQ with fruity drinks and light up the grill.
Generational Picture – Create a photo album or frame a nice picture of your family. You can also create a generational picture. I could try to explain it but the concept sounds confusing. Check out a tutorial with this link, it’s actually both simple and super thoughtful!
Kitchen or Dining Set – Because what mom couldn’t use any extra serving sets or new dishes? Buy her something cute that she can use to serve to her guests that she wouldn’t justify buying for herself. Check out some of the cute sets on Amazon below!
Book or Magazine Subscription – Find a book or magazine that your mom will enjoy. You can also buy her a subscription to one of her favourite magazines. The gift that keeps on giving! Shop popular books on Amazon with the link below or check out my previous post if your mom might enjoy a good psychological thriller!
Tea Set or Coffee – If your mom is a caffeine addict, buy her a really cute tea or mug set or some premium ground coffee to enjoy. Click here to get 10% off all teaware and accessories at Teabox.com.
Cook Dinner Together – If you weren’t up in time for the whole breakfast in bed thing, try cooking dinner for your mom or whole family instead. Find a new recipe to try out together.
Custom Made Beauty – Try finding a local beauty lab to go to like Bite’s Lip Lab. You can both go and create your own personalized lipstick, how cool is that? This is available in several major cities including Toronto, so be sure to check it out.
While these are all nice gifts, you really don’t need to spend a lot to show your mom that you care. A thoughtful card and setting aside time on Mother’s Day to spend time with her will be more than enough. Remember, it’s the thought that counts!
Happy Mother’s Day!
