How to be a Motivated Side-Hustler
Whether you decided to launch a blog or found another way to side hustle, motivation is key to your success. You get busy at your 9-5 and need to crunch in that extra time to work on your blog. Luckily, a side hustle or hobby is something enjoyable and with a little extra planning, you can stay on top of things.
I seem to have these bursts of blogging energy where I have all these ideas and I need to go write them down asap. Then I have days or weeks where I literally have no good ideas. The key to this, is to take advantage of your energetic blog bursts. When you think of ideas, just take the time to sit down and write them all. Then, when you’re looking for a new blog subject you already have that list. Better yet, write out your blog posts ahead of time and schedule them for when you want to go live.
This is something that I really struggle to find time for. When I’m at my 9-5 job, I need to be focused on that. If I do need to brainstorm ideas, I can take my lunch hour as “me time” to sit down and write some things down for later. The more ideas you have, the more pumped up and motivated you will be to write.
When I get in my little blogging funks (okay this happens a lot) it’s hard to maintain that level of motivation. I’ve learned to totally take advantage of those times where your creativity is flowing, and just sit down and write a blog post. I was totally like this in school too. You have a whole month to write an essay, and then you do it 2 days before its due. If I ever started something in advance, I would just hit a wall and become frustrated. When I left things until a little bit late, I know I could just lock myself in my room and hash that paper out. Yes, it’s called procrastination and it has a bad rep. I wouldn’t suggest it at work, but for a side-hustle some of my best writing comes from that last minute inspiration.
Set aside a calendar for yourself on when you want to write and post on your blog. Just like you have deadlines and a colour coordinated schedule at work, you can for your side-hustle too. When you do have those days of inspiration, write all your ideas down in a notebook dedicated to your blog. Then when you hit a wall and get stuck, you already have all those great ideas waiting for you!
You can also google ideas for blog posts in your niche – I’m not ashamed to admit I have. Here are some of my favourites for lifestyle blogging you can use for inspo:
